Every equinox and solstice brings the King Tides to Race Point Beach in Provincetown, MA.
Ptown has a very unique location and geographical history. Millions of years ago a glacier, 2 miles thick in some places, receded and advanced against the sea floor carving and churning up land. That land would be later known as Cape Cod. The elements of wind & water continue to change the topography of Provincetown year to year much like how it was created.
Rough seasonal tides bring aquatic debris and marine life to the shores including the Atlantic Sea Clam.
The great black back sea gulls, which are the largest gulls in the world, feast on the clams for days carrying them high into the sky and dropping them on the rocks until they break open. The end result is a beach covered in hundreds of shells and fat gulls.
The shores tell an ever evolving story much like the shells I repurpose.
